Wallace Quinn’s Margaret McMillan and Hazel Hamilton have smashed their £1000 fundraising target for Glasgow’s Golden Generation at this year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk. Margaret and Hazel walked the 14.6 miles from Clydebank to Loch Lomond in a little over four and a half hours.
Hazel said,
‘Margaret and I had a great time walking along with thousands of other fundraisers of all ages and abilities. The weather wasn’t on our side, but we pulled on the waterproofs and set off with a smile. 14.6 miles later we arrived, still smiling, but squelching a little as our shoes were totally waterlogged!.
Margaret added,
‘It was hard going but worth it to raise money and highlight the profile of Glasgow’s Golden Generation. Loneliness, isolation and poverty can affect any age group, but it can be particularly acute in the older generation and all of the money raised will go towards this worthwhile charity’s work. We would like to thank everybody who took the time to sponsor us. ’
Glasgow’s Golden Generation was founded in 1948 to recognise the need to tackle the loneliness experienced by many adults in the city. Over seventy years later, GGG run three day centres, provide welfare advice, weekly social clubs, befriending services and digital support. Volunteers are the cornerstone of the GGG services and new volunteers are always welcome.
